BFA IN DANCE PERFORMANCE
Krystal Matsuyama-Tsai is a freelance movement artist born and raised in Southern California. She graduated from UC Irvine with a BFA in Dance Performance and minor in Digital Arts. At UCI, she worked closely with Donald McKayle (Etude Ensemble), then choreographer-in-residence Douglas Becker, and Glorya Kaufman School of Dance Vice Dean, Jodie Gates. Krystal has performed with Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Entity Contemporary Dance, BARE Dance Company and worked commercially in LA and NY under MSA Agency.
As a movement instructor, Krystal strives to cultivate a welcoming and safe educational space that challenges the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of the student. She has a love for cultivating awareness within the individual, and witnessing the process of one’s discovery of their unique value. As a collaborator with DancePrehab, she hopes to continue to foster the conversation between dancers, dance educators, and dance science.
Currently she is pursuing her MFA in Dance at UC Irvine, and works with Peter Chu and his company chuthis. as a dancer and faculty member for the company’s intensives.
