PT Description

why choose dance|prehab?

Your healing and training process at DANCE|PREHAB is informed by of our collective experiences as dancer student, dance educator, dance professional, and now dance physical therapist. We know dance because not just we danced ourselves but we also see and acknowledge the social, cultural, and communal factors that often play a role in physical healing and health as well.

What does a DANCE|PREHAB session look like?

Pre-Session Phone Chat | 15 mins: We start with a phone conversation before your visit so you get a chance to speak with us and we get to hear from you even before you step into our spaces. That way we already have an idea about what we need to look at to ensure the best use of our time together!

Initial DANCE|PREHAB Evaluation | 60 mins: We dive a little deeper into your goals and what you want and need out of your healing experience. We'll do a full analysis of your strength, range of motion, movement patterns, and dance technique - all of which we'll relate back to your primary concern. You'll leave your first session with an exercise program to start with via our exercise app, as well as a follow-up email detailing our conversations and findings.

Follow-Up Visits | 60 mins: Your sessions will be geared towards first and foremost addressing your primary issue or difficulty, but we will also find time to build up the rest of your physical needs for training when your injury heals. Depending on how your goals or performance/training needs change, we will also shift and pivot with you to make sure your goals are met.

Does DANCE|PREHAB take insurance?

DANCE|PREAB is an out-of-network clinic which eliminates systemic barriers to quality of care we often see in regular outpatient clinics. For many of our clients, coming to DANCE|PREHAB is an intentional choice.

You may use your out-of-network insurance benefits (which may count towards your deductible), health savings account (HSA) or flex spending account (FSA). While we do collect our fees directly from our clients, we provide an itemized superbill for you to submit to your insurance company. By submitting your receipt, you may be able to recover a percentage of the cost you pay upfront (typically 60-80%) from your insurance company. This may depend on your specific insurance company and specific insurance plan.

From our experience, barriers to care via insurance companies have included:
- Limitations to number of approved visits
- Restrictions on body regions we are allowed to address at the same time
- Whether or not they deem an injury to be "serious" enough to warrant physical therapy.

What is the difference between Physical Therapy and Performance Prehab?

Physical therapy sessions are geared towards dancers who require rehabilitation (due to short-term or long-term injuries). Our Performance Prehab program is for the dancer who is interested in elevating their dance technique and performance through a resistance and weight training approach.

What conditions can I come to DANCE|PREHAB for physical therapy?

We treat a variety of dance-related musculoskeletal conditions including neck pain, back pain, rotator cuff dysfunction, muscle spasms and strains, ligament sprains, tendonitis/tendinosis, postsurgical rehabilitation and more. Physical therapy visits are typically 1-2 times a week for 4-8 weeks. However, this ultimately depends on the type or extent of injury or need for recovery.
