Physical Therapy for Dancers with Hip Pain
The dancer’s hip is the intersection between strength, mobility, stability, and control. Let’s cover all the bases.
How can we help you best?

Re-establish movement through the ball and socket of the hip.
Hip pain isn’t always just strength vs weakness. How can we let the body know it’s ok to move?

Learning to handle movement 3-dimensionally at end ranges.
Dance will ask us to move in all the ways – how can we prepare the muscles and joints appropriately?

Back to the demands of dance and performance.
As robust as it is, the hip is just one just one joint. How do you connect everything else together?
Hip Injuries We Treat include:
Hamstring Tendonitis (Proximal Hamstring Tendinopathy) / Inflammation or irritation where the hamstrings attach to the pelvis, causing pain at the base of the buttock and hip.
Stress Fractures in the Hip / Small fractures in the femur or pelvic bones caused by overuse and repetitive stress.
Hip Subluxation / Partial dislocation of the hip joint, often due to hypermobility, where the femur slips out of the socket temporarily.
Piriformis Syndrome / Irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle, leading to hip and buttock pain.
Hip Flexor Strain / Overstretching or tearing of the hip flexor muscles, often caused by high kicks or extreme range of motion.
Labral Tear / Tear of the cartilage (labrum) surrounding the hip joint, common with repetitive movements or extreme hip positions.
Snapping Hip Syndrome / A snapping sensation or sound during hip movement, caused by tight tendons or muscles rubbing over bones.
Hip Impingement (Femoroacetabular Impingement – FAI) / Abnormal contact between the hip joint bones, causing pain and reduced range of motion.
Trochanteric Bursitis / Inflammation of the bursa over the greater trochanter, causing pain on the outer side of the hip.
Iliopsoas Tendonitis / Inflammation of the iliopsoas tendon, causing pain in the front of the hip, often from overuse or repetitive flexion.
Hip Dislocation (Post-Surgical Rehab) / When the femur head slips out of the hip socket, often due to trauma or hypermobility, requiring rehabilitation post-surgery.
Adductor Strain (Groin Pull) / Overstretching or tearing of the inner thigh muscles, often caused by extreme movements like splits.
Gluteal Tendinopathy / Degeneration or inflammation of the gluteal tendons, leading to pain on the outside of the hip.
